Open research into society

The laboratory shares the results from his research involving a wide range of audiences: the scientific community, students, PhD students, young people, the media, institutional stakeholders, the education sector, socio-economic partners and the general public.

This approach helps to stimulate discussion contemporary issues and to promote greater understanding some social issues, economic and labour affairs.

A trend supported by the relevant authorities

LEST supports initiatives carried out by its members through a variety of formats: science outreach events, school visits, lectures, public meetings, collaborations with the media, popular science content and digital dissemination.

This policy forms part of the priorities set by Aix-Marseille University and the CNRS, particularly within the framework of the «Science with and for Society» (SAPS) label, as well as in line with the expectations of research funding bodies, notably the ANR, which now incorporates aspects of knowledge outreach and dissemination into the projects it funds.

Supporting and promoting initiatives

LEST encourages its researchers, PhD students and support staff to incorporate a the Science & Society aspect of their activities, by developing ways of sharing knowledge that are tailored to the diversity of audiences and contexts.

The measures taken are making a significant contribution to radiation scientific and the laboratory’s societal impact.

A structured approach

The laboratory supports its members in their efforts to disseminate knowledge and engage in science communication, in conjunction with initiatives led by Aix-Marseille University, the CNRS and national knowledge transfer networks.

The LEST has:

• a Science & Society liaison officer; ;
• a centre for the promotion and communication of science; ;
• an Open Science committee; ;
• and is involved in several institutional networks dedicated to scientific culture and the promotion of research.
