Career and research projects
My research falls within the fields of sociology and political science and adopts an international and comparative perspective. It focuses in particular on the analysis of public policies in the fields of health, inequality and immigration, examined through a range of research topics (the development of health and environmental policies at European Union level, reform of the welfare state, and the politicisation of professionals’ work).
Following my PhD in sociology, I gained experience in setting up several Europe-wide action research projects (notably under Horizon Europe) focusing on policies to reduce social and gender inequalities. In particular, I have studied the effects of changes in social and migration policies on the work of social workers and on the life trajectories of older immigrants.
Current projects
I am currently continuing my analysis of changes in the welfare state as part of a contract research post at the CNRS, based at the Laboratory of Labour Economics and Sociology (LEST, Univ. Aix-Marseille) and the CNRS International Research Laboratory in São Paulo (Brazil). As part of a one-year research project, I am examining the stigmatising discourse directed at recipients of social benefits, as well as the ambivalent role played by social workerssocial workers as political intermediaries, against a backdrop of the far right’s challenges to the welfare state and the increasing delegation of social services to civil society organisations (religious, neighbourhood-based, etc.).
My research also aims to analyse changes in perceptions of security (economic, social and symbolic) as indicators of shifts in class tensions.
