Cathel Kornig is a sociologist specialising in labour studies; she graduated from EHESS in 2003 and has been a member of LEST since 2004 and of the GISCOP93 since 2025. She co-leads the «Risks, Standards and Industrial Relations’ (RINOREP) research group and works as an independent researcher.
His work focuses, on the one hand, on the work and activity, sound organisation, the way it is put into words, its terms and conditions and on the links between work and health. For example, she has carried out several studies on the prevention of occupational risks, on the risks psychosocial in higher education and research, in hospitals, on the quality of life at work (QVT) among the caregivers or on the working conditions bus drivers. She led the evaluation of the first QVT social clusters and organised a series of seminars on psychosocial risks (bringing together practitioners and researchers).
Furthermore, his work also focuses on employment and its terms and conditions, on the unemployment and the precariousness employment. Several of Cathel Kornig’s studies and research projects focus on job insecurity amongst temporary workers, the seasonal workers and seasonal, people unemployed, the workers and posted workers, people working as self-employed contractors. Her thesis focused on temporary work and the exploitation of permanent temporary workers by agencies. Since then, she has continued to work on precarious employment and the difficult trade unionisation some workers in precarious employment. She has recently been working on the career paths, on career changes or on people who leave their field of study early.
Finally, for the past ten years or so, Cathel Kornig has also been working on the career paths of business leaders and the freelancers. She therefore examines their career paths, perceptions and working practices. Just like other employees, management staff are not a homogeneous group. For example, she has studied the practices of managers of small and medium-sized enterprises in the field of risk prevention, across the various uses of fixed-term contracts by businesses in the hospitality and catering sector, or the use of workers detached in the construction and metalworking sectors.
