Youth, Education, Mobility
The axis JEM analyses the economic and social changes in the world of work and their impact on inequalities, through the mobility schemes, the migration, the the circulation of knowledge and the youths. He studies how these dynamics shape educational and career paths. He focuses on issues relating to education, training and integration, but also to the public schemes which support young people through periods of transition, whilst examining their effectiveness and limitations. The aim is to shed light on the mechanisms that exacerbate, reduce or transform the inequalities, by combining economic, sociological and educational approaches.
The work carried out under the JEM priority area centres on three key issues:
- Mobility and migration : How do young people integrate into globalised and segmented labour markets?
- The circulation of knowledge : What impact do knowledge-sharing and training have on career paths?
- Inequalities amongst young people : How do economic and social conditions influence young people’s life paths?
These issues are addressed through qualitative and quantitative surveys, some comparative studies and some analyses of public policies.

An analysis of the life courses, aspirations and constraints that shape the life trajectories of younger generations, against a backdrop of changes in the labour market and education systems.
Analysis of migration patterns, migrants’ strategies for entering the labour market, and reception policies, with a focus on inequalities in access to employment and rights.
An exploration of the processes involved in the transmission, acquisition and application of knowledge, as well as their role in shaping career paths and reducing inequalities.
A review of public policy measures and their effectiveness in promoting the integration and mobility of young people.

MIG TRAV Seminar
In 2015, the ongoing seminar series «Migration and Work» was launched at LEST, based on an original idea by Fréderic Décosse, Mustapha El Miri and Delphine Mercier. Drawing on the ANR FABRICAMIG.SA research programme and research carried out by sociologists specialising in labour issues on migration and access to the labour market, the seminar drew up its roadmap.
